Woman and Man’s Best Friend…has passed away

Bela in Gash Creek - way up in the mountains I always wondered exactly what “a heavy heart” meant. I now know what it means for me in a poignant, piercing manner. Last night our beloved dog, Bela, passed away in her sleep. Finding her on her bed and realizing that she was “gone” was almost unbearable. I think my heart fell from my chest and shattered on the deck. Somehow, it is back in my chest, but is a heavy lump, sitting there, in the way…aching for Bela.

Yesterday we had taken a hike up one of our favorite ridges. Yes, she was almost 13 years old and her hips were getting stiff, but on the hike she was spry and as happy as usual to be out with us in the mountains. We were enjoying her golden years. She was alway a good dog but lately even better. She stayed in close proximitiy and always looked at us with adoring eyes as if to say, “Are you having as good a time as I am?” Tears flow, hearts ache, but that doesn’t bring her back.

Thank you Bela for all you gave us, even in your passing. You wiBela in Sweathouse Creekll always be in my heart. You adored Jack (he spoiled you) and you loved me (after all, I fed you). I hope you know how much we loved you and will always miss you. They often say, “she was one of a kind.” You were. There will never be another spirit as wonderful as you.

First Post for Merle’s Adventures

I want to share photos and stories of flora and fauna I see on my outdoor adventures. As I work from home in the Bitterroots, my focus is there. I will also add photos and stories from travel and from friends and family.

Because I am working with photos, I plan to use various photo websites and applications. I will provide reviews of their features, what I like, what I don’t like, and probably what I would wish for. It will be information and ratings based on my experiences uploading, processing, organizing, creating slideshows, etc. It should be interesting!

About Merle Ann Loman

Welcome

My name is Merle Ann Loman. I grew up in a small western Montana town, Ronan and studied at the University of Montana. My most significant work experience has been with the United States Forest Service and the Department of the Interior mostly in fire and emergency management. In that experience, I designed and managed computer programs that tracked resources used and needed for incidents and project work. Most projects involved extensive travel. I loved seeing other places, but now I am more interested in being a tourist and working from home.

Why? Because my two daughters attend the University of Montana in Missoula and Jack Mauer and I have a home south of Missoula near Victor, Montana. By working at home in computer web design, I am able to enjoy our families, home, the mountains, and the rivers. This is exactly the life I had dreamed of.

My blogs reflect our love of the outdoors. Visit them at the links below:
